This study was conducted to estimate the allocative efficiency of tomato producers in the two (2) production basins of Moundou during the 2025 growing season. Data was collected from 212 tomato producers using a random sampling technique. The cost frontier was determined by applying the self-dual property of the stochastic Cobb-Douglas production function. The estimated average allocative efficiency score was 79%, while only 19% of producers achieved a level above 90%. The allocative efficiency of 28.78% of farmers ranges from 71 to 80%, followed by 22.64% in the range of 81 to 90%. The results illustrate that there is still potential to increase production and reduce costs by 21% at the current level of input use and available technology. The yield coefficient is negative, indicating that a one percent increase in yield reduces the cost by 0.065 percent. The estimated elasticities for land rental and inputs have a positive and significant effect on the total cost of production. An optimal mix of inputs could reduce production costs. Regarding the independent variables, the farmer’s age, as an indicator of relevant experience, and access to extension services were found to be significant contributors to allocative efficiency.

La présente étude a été réalisée pour estimer l’efficacité allocative des producteurs de tomates dans les deux (2) bassins de production de Moundou, pendant la saison culturale 2025. Les données ont été collectées auprès de 212 producteurs de tomates par le biais d’une technique d’échantillonnage aléatoire. La frontière des coûts a été déterminée en appliquant la propriété auto-duale de la fonction de production stochastique de type Cobb-Douglas. Le score d’efficacité allocative moyenne estimé était de 79 %, alors que seuls 19 % des producteurs ont atteint un niveau supérieur à 90 %. L’efficacité allocative de 28,78 % des agriculteurs varie de 71 à 80 %, suivie de 22,64 % dans la fourchette de 81 à 90 %. Les résultats illustrent qu’il y a encore une possibilité d’augmenter la production et de réduire les coûts de 21 % au niveau actuel d’utilisation des intrants et de la technologie disponible. Le coefficient du rendement est négatif, ce qui montre qu’une augmentation d’un pour cent du rendement réduit le coût de 0,065 pour cent. Les élasticités estimées pour la location des terres et les intrants ont un effet positif et significatif sur le coût total de production. Un mélange optimal d’intrants pourrait réduire le coût de production. En ce qui concerne les variables indépendantes, l’âge de l’agriculteur étant un indicateur de l’expérience pertinente et l’accès aux services de vulgarisation ont été trouvés comme des contributeurs significatifs à l’efficacité allocative.
